From the Jasper String Quartet
Welcome to our third season of Jasper Chamber Concerts! This season we are delighted to perform Philadelphia-connected works by Patrick Castillo, Emily Cooley, Scott Ordway and Shelley Washington, as well as the Philadelphia premiere of Wild Summer by Joan Tower.
Violist David Yang joins us in May for Dvorak Viola Quintet and we kick off the season with a string trio concert featuring the phenomenal Bach Goldberg Variations.
As a string quartet, we have performed close to 1000 concerts around the world in the past decade. With the creation of Jasper Chamber Concerts, we aim to contribute to the artistic discourse of our Philadelphia community and highlight the amazing musical artistry that emanates from this region. Each concert features both musicians and composers who call (or have called) Philadelphia home.
In early 2013, our Quartet faced the important decision of where to make our home. Having previously centered our lives around the music schools we attended together (Yale University, Rice University, Oberlin Conservatory), we were now looking for a culture-filled city where we could weave our artistic and personal lives into the community.
We had already visited Philadelphia many times through our connection with Astral Artists. We won their 2010 national auditions and subsequently performed concerts and brought our music into schools, from Philadelphia School District elementary schools to Benjamin Rush Academy to GAMP and Abington Friends School. Through these visits, we fell in love with the city, its residents and their commitment to the arts.
We are delighted to now call Philadelphia home and we continuously work to integrate ourselves into the cultural fabric.
Skyspace | the perfect setting
The Chestnut Hill Friends Meetinghouse Skyspace is a fantastic space for our concerts. Simultaneously spacious and intimate, it is the perfect setting to enjoy chamber music.
We hope you can join us for this season of concerts!
